View Full Version : Where did my good sleeper go?

So since Friday night when Nicholas had to stay at my sister's while I took DH to the ER, he hasn't slept thru the night. Now it's bad and he's waking every 30 min, and every night he's ending up in bed with me just so I can get some sleep.
The last 2 nights, he's been wide awake around 2a wanting to eat! He had been sleeping from 8p-6a without eating for a couple of months now so I know he isn't hungry.
And naps - forget it! He will fall asleep in my arms but as soon as I lay him down he screams and won't stop until I get him. By the end of the day, we're both miserable because he's so tired and cranky.
I know all this is because his routine is turned upside down with DH being in the hospital and all that goes with it - the 2 hrs/day in the car to see DH, different people taking care of him, spending the night away from home, etc. My question is - how the heck do I get him back into a routine, without going insane? :help:

 Don't know Kim....ahahah I have been fighting with Trevor through naps again too...he will scream when I put him down and he NEVER used to do that come nap time he would just lay right down...the past 2 wks or so he screams often when I put him down for naps for up to 25 min and will even scream at bedtime some too...and you've seen my other thread so I'm in a pickle :frusty:
I KNOW sep anxiety hits at this age too so it may be a combo of issues for us both!

I figured we were going to have to let him CIO but if it's separation anxiety then I'm worried about doing that and making it worse...

Have you guys tried a Lovey? A blanket, or a stuffed animal? We bought Madelynn this one,http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3104466, and she loves it. It STAYS in her crib. :)

Nicholas has a lovey as well as his taggie blanket but I haven't tried either in his crib, I will tonight!

Or, you could try sleeping with the Lovey tonite, so it gets your scent on it, and then put it with him the next night.

I had done that a while ago but I'm sure my scent is gone by now, so I'll do it again. I just don't know if it will work - he gets so upset that nothing works except me getting him.

Better but still not great - since DH came home, he's waking up 3-4x/night and we finally end up on the couch around 5a and doze off until Caden gets here at 7a.
And naps - he's pretty much not taking them at all anymore. :( When I know he's tired I'll lay him down, but he screams until I go get him, then he will pass out for 20-30 min in my arms. By afternoon, he's miserable and then like last night, he passed out 5 min after we sat down after his bath at 6p but was back up at 10p to eat again.

Yeah, he has an instrumental relaxation CD that we've played at bedtime since he started sleeping in his room.

Oh no, its worse and I'm beyond exhausted! I don't know what's going on, he's up 4-5x/night and won't nap during the day either... :(

Mine either. Last night J refused to go to sleep until sometime after 9. And then he woke at 12:30 and stayed up till 5:30. I dont get it.
I am really hoping once his sack is checked and fixed he becomes happy and sleepy.
And to top it off his teeth drive him nuts.

Well now he's waking up about every 45 min at night, usually about halfway thru the night I give up and end up on the couch with him, so we can both get some sleep. I try and try to comfort him without picking him up but he gets so upset that I have to. But as soon as I do, he passes back out! Until finally he will just cry no matter where he is, so we snuggle together until morning.
I don't think there are any teeth coming in, at least I can't see any. I don't know if it's separation anxiety or what - but it's getting old quick!
He is napping better though- he will sleep for 1-2 hrs mid-morning and then on random days another 1-2 hrs in the early evening, but is then usually up late (10-11p) when he does that. But not in his crib of course, because that would be too easy, he falls asleep in my arms then sleeps on the couch. I don't mind at this point, as long as he gets some sleep and I have my hands free to get things done around the house!
