Its a good seat, its just like a Marathon except for the extra padding that are mainly used for infants, however it does have a different adjustor for the releasing the harness straps vs the Marathon. Issues have been reported on the push button releaser, there was also a recall where I beleive parts were sent out to owners. It also only goes up to 33 RF vs the new MA's go up to 35 RF. There have been rumors.........according to the carseat board I read that they might be discontinued......but just a rumor......

They have one on sale at Albeebaby for $219.99 so I wanted to find out - the main difference I saw was the rear facing weight...

And since I'm having NO luck getting a marathon, I thought I'd see about this one.

Hey I mean they might have worked out the glitches on the adjustor, but thats the issues I have read regarding the Decathlon, I think some people even got them replaced. Do you want me to do more research for ya?

I'm trying but the one I ordered is still on backorder, 3 weeks later, when they said 3 weeks MAX! I talked to them today and they might be in at the end of the week but no guarantees. Nicholas is quickly growing out of his SafeSeat so I'm running out of time! And I'm not having much luck finding a marathon under $249...:(

I think it was Traveling Tikes Raquel and don't even get me started on them! Their website says they have all kinds of seats on sale but when I call to order one, they are all out. This has happened twice now - when I tell they need to update their website accordingly, she tells me it isn't her department! :mad:

Oh yeah it was. the one i acutally ordered was out of stock so they called me and substituted it for one of the other ones and so i got the pricier carseat for the sale price..sorry your having issues

Kim Britax will be having a sale in February, don't know the dates yet though. The Decathlon basically has the different adjustor and the extra padding which you can remove I believe and leave it bare like the MA, however the adjustor will be different.

Let me ask you this, since you are concerned about Nicholas outgrowing his carseat SafeSeat1 already. Is he very close to 30 pounds? For height? Does he have more than one inch of hardshell over his head? You might be able to wait a bit longer than you think (just wondering)

I have not found any good deals on the MA's right now, and well the one I have that is currently 219 on albeebaby, you don't like the cover. Let me see if I can find something else for you.

Oh and there is also another carseat, its called the truefit it has the same limits as the Marathon, however it actually has a higher shell which is good for outgrowing purposes. I have never sat Gael in one of those, but the are cheaper than MA's and so far I have read good things about them.

Sorry Marissa, I don't know how I managed to miss this post earlier! Thanks for all your research, you're awesome! It's height that he's outgrowing as he's 30-31 in long right now and has right at 1 inch of hardshell above his head. I have read about the TrueFit and it sounds like a good seat but I'm in love with the marathon, so I do want to stick with it.

But :yay: - the greystone one that I ordered thru Traveling Tikes this afternoon is out of stock, but they called a little while ago and said they would sub either the onyx or granite instead, my choice, which are both $249.99 and it would ship on Friday!!!! I've really wanted the onyx all along, so it works out perfectly - I get the seat I want at the sale price of the other one!!!!! :)
