You know the easiest, no fancy steps involved. I am thinking about doing cloth at home with Vera...

wow where do I start....

I love pockets for so many reason. It is the best for me but everyone is different.

Here is a breakdown:
Types of Cloth Diapers

All In Ones (AIOs)
Cloth diaper that has an inner soaker sewn to an outer waterproof layer with either velcro or snap closure. This diaper does not need a cover.

Pros:

Closest to a disposable.
Great for dad & daycares.
Diaper changes are fast.
Easy to use.

Cons:
Long drying times.
Most expensive.
Bulkier than a pocket.
Must be washed each use.

Example of an AIO:

Swaddlebees AIOs- Available in both aplix and snap closures. This is a beautifully designed AIO. This is one of the trimmest AIOs on the market.

All In Twos (AI2s)
Cloth diaper that has a detachable inner soaker snapped to an outer waterproof layer with either velcro or snap closure. This diaper does not need a cover.

Pros:
Closest to a disposable.
Do not wear out any faster then pre-folds with covers.
Easy to use.
Great for dads & daycares.
Diaper changes are fast.
One-size AI2s are cheaper in the long run.
You can reuse the covers and only change the soaker.
Resale value is high.

Cons:
Number needed to make it till laundry day.
Expensive.
Coordinating pieces have to be used together. Soakers are not inter-changeable.
Bulkier than a pocket.

Example of an AI2:

Econappi & Mini Nappi- These chic dipes are a must have for any diaper stash! Use it as an All-In-Two diaper by just laying the insert on top of the diaper. If the diaper isn't soiled, just change the insert and reuse the diaper.

Fitteds & Covers
Fitted diapers have a contoured shape and are gathered around the legs. They are fastened with either velcro or snaps. A waterproof cover or wool/fleece cover is needed when using fitted.

Pros:
Convenient.
Great night time diaper.
You can reuse the covers and only change the fitted.
Cheaper than AIOs/AI2s.
Cute cover options.
Breathable for baby’s delicate skin.
You can have matching covers and shirts/dresses and reuse the cover.
No pins or snappis needed.
Trimmer than pre-folds and covers.
Dries faster than an AIO

Cons:
Requires a waterproof (PUL) diaper cover or wool/fleece cover.
Not as easy as an AIO or pocket

Example of a Fitted and a Cover:

Thirsties Fitteds - The velvety cotton velour outer layer offers seven total color options (plus white) in four sizes to ensure a perfect match of color and fit at every change!.
Thirsties Covers - PUL waterproof outer. Wonderful leg gussets that contain even they messiest diapers.

Pockets
Pocket diapers are a two-piece system with a piece of fleece/suede cloth that makes up the inner portion of fabric and a waterproof (PUL) layer that makes up the outer portion. An absorbant insert is placed inside the pocket.

Pros:
Trim fit.
Fast drying.
Convient.
Control absorbency.
Keeps baby’s bottom dry- fleece inner wicks moisture away from skin.
Easy to use.

Cons:
Must be stuffed once they are washed & dried.
Must be washed each use.
Possible build up on the inner material.
Not good for potty training- bottom always “feels” dry.

Example of a Pocket :

Fuzzi Bunz - By far the most well known cloth diaper. Fuzzi Bunzs are the most popular brand of pocket diapers. They come in a variety of colors. The inner fabric is fleece and the outer fabric is PUL. They have snap closures that are adjustable and make them fit a wide range of sizes.

One Size Diapers
Diapers that can be adjusted to work from newborn to toddler. They are available in fitteds, pockets, and All In Ones.

Pros:
Economical.
Can be used for multiple children. Siblings can share diapers.
Resale value is high.
Can get different types.

Cons:
Bulky on small babies.
Must learn to change snaps between sizes.
Expensive initial investment.

Example of a One Size :

Happy Heiny Onesize - Designed with the same quality and luxuriousness of the Happy Heinys Pocket Diapers only they are made to fit baby from birth to potty training

Prefolds and Covers
Rectangular shaped flat cloth diaper. They come in a variety of sizes, color, & thickness. Pre-folds must be folded to fit in a waterproof or wool diaper cover.

Pros:
Great for newborns.
Cheapest.
Easy to wash.
Fast drying.
Versatile.
Leaks are unusual.
Cute cover options.
You can have matching covers and shirts/dresses and reuse the cover.
Reusable covers so you don't need as many.

Cons:
Bulkiest option.
Will not fit under tight fitting clothing.
Learning curve on folding options.
Dads and daycares will have to learn to fold.
Takes longer to put on.

Example of a Prefolds and Covers :

Prefolds & Covers - Introducing the Ultimate Cotton Prefold! Indian Prefolds are the perfect blend of extreme durability, luxurious softness, & ultimate absorbency.

Prefolds and covers are one of the cheapest ways to start. You need about 2 dozen diapers and 6-8 covers. I started making fitted pocket diapers. When I get some more made I'll have the sitter start using those.

Just jump in. It is really easier than you think.

Are Chinese prefolds the same thing?

Sarah

Those look nice.

I have unbleached prefolds and Bummis and ProRaps covers. I got the ProRaps from the manufacturer. They are seconds and cost $5.25 each. The nice thing about covers is that if Vera only peed, you can rinse the cover out and use it again.

The try-it kit is a good deal. That way you are only $35 in and you can get a feel really quick if that is what you want.

You do have to wash the prefolds several times before using. I use about 1 tablespoon of All free for a load of diapers.

Honestly, prefold are every to start out with on a toddler. She is going to moving a ton and have no patients for you learning what the best fit for her is. Prefolds are good for newborns when you have time to practice and get a good fit going.

And now you are really going to hate me but the mokey snuggle pocket diaper dont look the best either. I see the flaws with them with the picture so I would hate to see them in action. I dont know for sure but I see them leaking out the sides cuz of how they are made. Plus some people love velco tabs but personally I hate them. They wash up bad and stuck to everything plus my kids know how to unvelcro them, juts like disposibles, they can take them off. The snaps are harder to unsnap.

I use 100% Fuzzi Bunz. Both my kids use it and it is the only one in our stash. I buy all my diapers from a local WAHM mom and good friend that owns this site.

Now it really depends how "your" baby body build is to get the best pocket for her. Is she tall and shinny (small waist and skinny legs) or a chunkey money with thighes? This makes a huge difference on the brand that will works best for you.

But really, pockets is the best way to go.

For the chunkey baby that has thighs, use Fuzzi Bunz. http://www.frogandelephant.com/catalog.php?category=107

For skinny, thin, small baby the best pocket diaper is Swaddlebees. http://www.frogandelephant.com/catalog.php?category=89

If you a mommy that like the idea of velco more than snaps, then Happy Heinys is a really great brand name too. http://www.thenaturalmotheringshop.com/products.php?cat=70

Fuzzi bunz with the cotton babies inserts are really nice!!! It has the fleece inner which helps wick away the wetness. Also with the prefolds you can go and get fleece and cut out like an hour glass shape to help keep the wetness away too or just get the microfiber towels from the auto section those work great as stuffers too!
