Cottonbabies website has some useful information. Here's the link: http://www.cottonbabies.com/clothdiapers.php
You shouldn't have to put anything in an AIO. That's why they are an all-in-one.

Pockets have inserts. Some people will put a doubler or a soaker in a fitted for more absorbency.

I have put a doubler in my AIOs but that\a because they seem to leak. Otherwise, they don't need anything.

Oh inserts! I bought super absorbent industrial cloths. Fold those in half and they work for a quick fix.

Only pockets need inserts. Some of the best inserts I have are actually micro terry towels found in the auto section of Walmart. They absorb great, last forever, and are cheap.

I like the microfiber also. Just fold them to the best size to put into your diaper.
