Seriously?! When is he going to learn just to keep his mouth shut! I know the kids are his too but when it comes to carseats, my dh is one that wants them out asap. I told him I NEED Sam's seat washed tonight. I'm taking him to the doctor today in the BOOSTER! Yes, he is big enough for it but he screws around too much. I'm okay for short trips because I feel I'm a safe, defensive driver. My DH not so much and I'm NOT comfortable with my ds2 being in a booster for a 7hr drive with mostly semi-trucks and then another 4.5hr drive 2 days later (and reverse just a couple short days later!).
So now my dh is pissed because Sam is big enough for the booster and its less of a hassle! YES, the seat starts at 39in and 30 (or 32lbs) he IS technically big enough but he was 39.25 inches last time I measured him and maybe 34lbs. He does go in today but I doubt he has changed all that much. If he STILL FITS in the carseat, I am most comfortable with him in it. He doesn't mind it, it reclines when he falls asleep (Graco Safeseat II) and its a big, comfy seat! So my dh wanted to know just how long I was going to force him to stay in the carseat (Um, I'm not exactly FORCING him, he climbs in and happily buckels himself!) and I said UNTIL HE IS TOO BIG FOR IT! And he's mad at me! I just don't get it!
My 6yo and 3yo understand me when I say, YES Sam is big enough for a booster but he is still the right size for the carseat and he is SAFER in the carseat so he should stay in the carseat! That had Cameron asking me why he wasn't in a carseat if they were safer and I had to explain that he was TOO BIG and that his seat was safest for his size. Being too big is just as bad as being too small. I also explained to Cameron that he could go without the back on his booster or even LEGALLY not use a seat at all but that his seat belt fit him better if he used the back and guess what, HE UNDERSTOOD and agreed that his seat was just fine with the back becasue it was SAFEST! So why can I get a 3yo and a 6yo to understand this but can't convince a 32yo man that his child's SAFETY is more important than convenience and the simple fact that he technically could move to the booster?!?!
After Sam turns 4 (which I realize is in less than 2 weeks), I will consider moving him but I'm not telling him that! I'd like him to be a little bigger and a little more mature before I move him. I want to hold out until he complains about the carseat. HOWEVER, I would also like to move him BEFORE he outgrows the seat just for the simple fact that IF he doesn't act and sit properly in the booster, I CAN MOVE HIM BACK and try again in a month or 2 when hopefully he learns how important it is to use his belt correctly! But, depending on how big he is today, I could have 6 months to a year or even longer before he is too big for his Safeseat!
