Clever Comebacks:

"Yeah, it is a pain to haul them down to the river and beat them against rocks, but it's worth it."

"Well, I save $1500.00 a year so I laugh myself to the bank every Friday."

"I don't know, it just seems silly to me to wrap $30.00 a week in a plastic garbage bag and throw it away....but maybe that's just me."

"What do you mean you don't have time for that? You don't have time to change your baby?"

"Oh right, washing poo off of cloth diapers is an inconvenience, but if we don't then we have to wash poo off clothing, crib sheets, car seats, carpet, couches, etc. because of leaky disposables. I think we picked the easier path."

"Well, diaper duty is never fun, but I sleep well at night knowing my choice doesn't involve thousands of pounds of poo wrapped in paper and plastic and stuck in the landfill for hundreds of years to come."

"Would YOU want to wear paper underwear?"

"Well, my child doesn't have diaper rash anymore so I guess their comfort is worth it."

"Oh, we have just chosen a more natural, less chemically produced, lazily dependent upon modern conveniences style of parenting, that's all."

"She has a big butt you say? Well, SHE is wearing a cloth diaper underneath her clothing? What is your excuse?"

"I wouldn't wear a portable toilet on my backside so neither do my children."

Disposables diapers are the definition of wasteful, and we don't want to start our baby's life that way.

I don't want to waste my money on what will essentially be garbage...I would rather that money go into my child's piggy bank.

I agree- I think there could be way better ways of telling someone to mind their own business than some of those. I think it's just rude. Besides, I tried the cloth diapering with my first child, and I could come up with a few clever comebacks for those comebacks supporting disposable diapers. Maybe it was just me, but we had nothing but trouble with the cloth diapers. I like cloth diapering because 1. I think they're kind of cute. 2. Money plays a minor factor, but in our 5 months of trying to use them, I spent as much money to clean the damn things...and my furniture....and my carpets because each and every one leaked both poo and pee, so for a few extra bucks a month, a clean house is worth it for ME, personally. 3. The environment. This is the biggest for me, however, the person who said it takes 100 years for a disposable diaper to decompose never used them. Because while they hold urine well from the inside, if you don't change them for hours and hours on end (like my MIL) they FALL APART. Not only that, but there have been a few backyard swimming days where my child/children were wearing only diapers...they don't last that long when dipped in a tub of water.

To those who cloth diaper- GOOD ON YOU....but I don't think it's fair to call those of us who it doesn't work for lazy or tell us we're throwing away money...maybe with my next baby I'll try it again. Like I said, I th ink they're freakin' cute.

I do both. Disposable when I am out and cloth at home. I find they both have great reasons for pros and cons. I do love my cloth but it is much easier when I am out these day and only have 1 in diapers now.
