So we were at the light the other day and I could not help but notice an infant little girl in a infant carseat with no base......ok so you would think hmm they are using the seatbealt correctly and the lock in clip............NOP WRONG seriously they the seat belts looped around the handle and then buckled in ............WOW I had not seen that one before...................

Second case this morning..........4 kids in the back of a small car, one high back booster not restrained........two toddlers younger than 3 sharing the middle seat with not type of carseat........and one infant in a bucket seat most likely just sitting on top of the seat ............

Cute case- Saw a forward facing girl maybe 3 or 4 years of age in her carseat feeding a dolly while in traffic.......I thought that was cute.........

DH says I need to stop looking at people's carseats.............

This weekend he was telling me about a store we had gone to for Halloween costumes where they also sell fireworks............and I said oh yeah the one where they had the childs carseat in the front seat.......forward facing.........Armando was like huh?? I don't know

Marissa, I've been doing that for years and I'm not even a carseat Nazi!

I went to my OB appt once and there was a brand new mercedes (so I know it had airbags!) SUV across from me with the infant base in the FRONT seat! I took down the license plate and called my brother (police officer) but was told sadly, there is nothing they can do. A friend of mine from high school posted pics of her DDs while on vacation and her younger dd was FF in what looked like a harnessed booster. SURE, she IS a big girl (built like Megan) but I don't think she is one yet.

Oh and I have NEVER used the bases with my infant seats. I was about 19 or 20 when a couple I had babysat for years for had their 3rd (surprise!) baby! Their older kids were 9 and 11. Anyway, the dad used to take the baby with him when he took the older kids to school. He ended up getting in an accident one day with a school bus and his van flipped and landed upside down. The carseat was ejected out of the base and thrown out of the car. THANKFULLY that was the ONE TIME he did NOT have the baby with him! So maybe the seat wasn't latched all the way in but we'll never know. That alone scared me off of the bases. Then when I was pg with Cameron, there was a recall on his base because the clips that held the seats in were breaking in accidents. That was completely the end of it for me. I figure using the belt on the seat was the absolute safest thing and the only thing I could handle doing. When I was looking for seats for Megan, I noticed that very few Evenflo seats have a spot for the seat belt on the actual carseat. Thats why I stuck with Graco!

it is sad when kids are either buckled incorrectly or not buckled at all....

lots of newer vehicles have the OPTION to turn the front airbags on passenger side OFF...so maybe that was the case, hopefully

There is nothing wrong with using the seatbelt with infant seats and not the base, but EVERYONE I know IRL just buckles it accross the carseat belt slots.........but noone tightens then with a locking clip, basically you can just wobble the seat all over.......most people don't know that its not the correct way to use the seatbelt with an infant seat, thats what makes me nervous.

Mine was always tight and my belts (all but the drivers seat) have built in locking clips.

lol carly I've seen a ff infant carrier too.. They just use the seat belt over the car seat backwards here. There was a cop there when they got out of the store ;)

i ALWAYS use my base on my graco. i tightened the carseat one day without it and thought all was fine but then i lifted the back of the seat and it compleatly would flip. it didnt loosen but if we were in a rear end accident the carseat would not have been safe so i have 2 bases i use. my mom has one and i have the other in my bravada. its alot easier to move his carseat and snap it in the base but i always make sure it snaps. im worried though with them men. they hear one snap and think its in when its not. they need to make sure its in. i always test hubbys carseat placement.

oh yeah forgot to add. the only thing that i notice that P's me off is parents putting the carseat NOT in the middle in the back when the carseats the only thing back there. i see it all the time!! if only they knew what would happen in a side impact accident!

alot of the new car seats are SIDE impact tested... those are the ones we have. One that really gets me...... is this... I know it seems silly but it really gets under my skin.... Leaving the infant carrier handle UP when ridding..
