View Full Version : Should I be afraid?

With Bryce's milk protein allergy, it has scared us from trying anything new it seems. Especially fruits. He east peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, squash, peaches and carrots but we too afraid to try applesauce and bananas even though he didn't have any adverse reactions to peaches. (other than the fact that he doesn't care for them)
Who here has had a child with milk allergies that wasn't able to take fruits as well?
Are they more prone to being allergic to fruits when they are allergic to milk protein?
What kinds of things do I need to be on alert for?

You need to be alert for the top 8 and delay peanut butter and strawberries. My son won't eat any veggies or fruit and that is why he is on a toddler drink that provides him the nutrients he is missing from his diet.

Wow Rayvnn, I'm so sorry to hear that. He refuses all baby food?
I've debated the vitamin drops for Bryce but he drinks more than 17 ounces of Neocate everyday so it's not needed.

Ryan is not on baby food anymore. He is over 2yo. He would eat mainly fruits and veggies as a baby.
It was a rough road with Ryan. I was told by Ryan's ped when he was born that he can't be allergic to milk. He just had lazy first born white boy syndrome.

Oh...so does he drink the pediasure stuff? I used this with a lot of my young special needs children that couldn't chew or wouldn't eat very much.

our allergist told us to be sure NOT to introduce those "high risk foods" untill 3 yrs old.. ESP not peanuts. I would just be SUPER careful when introducing a new food. we keep a journal of EVERYTHING he eats... tedious I know... but it can be a life saver!

I use to journal what Ryan ate, what his diapers were like, and any other symptoms for many months. It is a lot of work and more tiring than watching the kid.

lol yes... but if you go to the allergist he will suggest you do it as well... if you are in the habbit it's much easier if he would need you to do it

So far he has taken all the foods that we have introduced with ease. We keep records of everything as well especially after seeing blood in his diaper. I think I am going to give bananas a try after this weekend. Wish me luck.

Are you waiting 4 days in between each new food introduction? So he has four exposures to make sure there is no allergy? I'm surprised that he's eating so many different foods already at 4 months, especially since he already has allergies...

Yeah 4 days between all foods. He is holding his head up well, interested and lost the tongue thrust. He couldn't have rice cereal so our GI Specialist said to start with baby food.

I started him on banana's Friday and he loves them. He hasn't had any reactions and the doctor said that he was looking great for his age. He's 16 pounds and 27 inches long...holy big!
