How many cloth diapers do I need??? I would ideally like to do laundry every other day :)

I have about 16 pockets and fitteds (combined), 2 dozen prefolds (for stuffing), 4 covers and a handful of flats. I can wash every 2 days with that.

Compared to some people's stashes that is pretty small.

As of now I'm using AIO's and CONSIDERING pocket diapers

:lol: Pocket diapers are really nice because you can adjust the absorbency by adding more stuffing. During the day, I will stuff with one prefold diaper, and at night I stuff with 2.

The less layers you have in a diaper, the shorter the drying time also. An AIO will take a lot longer to dry than a pocket because the absorbent layer stays in instead of coming out. I have an AIO that I made and it is usually damp even though all the other diapers are totally dry.

Ok so if I order 24 pocket diapers....

So instead of washing the whole AIO I would wash the inserts and teh diaper itself separately???

Yes. Normally the inserts will come out of the diaper in the wash so you don't have to pull them out. I always check after I do a rinse just in case one decided to stay in the diaper.

After they are dry, just stuff the inserts back into the diaper.

I haven't bought any, so I really don't know. When I decided to cloth diaper, I bought 1 dozen prefolds and 3 covers and made the rest.

Sounds like you're set! Just make sure you wash them every 2-3 days though.

Thanks Sarah. I plan to wash every day to every other day, but I wanted to have extras just in case of an emergency, like the washer broke down or something like that :-)
