The only downfall I have found with the cloth diapers are the wash routine is excessive!!
Here's my wash routine with them. Since I have a front loader with a sensor, I have to trick the machine to add more water.
Cold Rinse w/ spin to remove anything left on the diapers
Cold rinse w/o spin
Cold wash w/o detergent
HOT wash w/ detergent
Hot wash w/o detergent, extra rinse
This is like 3 hours of washing...... oyi oyi

I was very happy for my older washer that is not front loading and efficient when
I cloth diapered. It never took that long.

Yea..... I love my washer!!
Its jsut ironic that a washer that efficient on water for the enviroment is not cloth diaper ideal.....
I'll continue it because I like CDing....... Hopefully I will get more soon and I wont have to wash AS often.... I dont have to wash today but I want to sun the CD and todays the last day for sun this week
LOL

I've heard lots of complaints about the front loaders. That sucks. On one board I'm on, some people have to put boiling water in theirs to get the diapers clean.

yeah the washing part drove me nuts.. but in honestly it cost less to run a washer for that long, then let throw aways build up in landfills

I don't even think I can trick my machine! Its a massive pain in the butt when it comes to cycles. You can't stop it mid cycle and start over without unplugging the entire thing and even then, it won't unlock and you have to start all over!! Newer machines are not CD friendly which really sucks and a huge reason why I couldn't do it (the other was dh, my mom and MIL wouldn't change diapers/watch the kids if I did!).

You can trick it... lthe older models ahve a sensor to adjust water level and if the clothes are soaking wet it feels heavier to the machine therefore putting in more water :)

Mines only 2yrs so no tricking! My mom's is older and I can do more with it but other than finally figuring out how to do a rinse and spin instead of just a spin, I can't figure anything else out. It doesn't even have a soaking option which really sucks.
