Hi all. I am an FTM due September 6th. I am planning to cloth diaper Amelia, and excited about it! Glad to not be contributing to more waste on this planet. My good friend suggested Sunbaby diapers off ebay. They are Pocket AIOs. They are also one size fits all. I know I can't use normal detergent. What does everyone on here use right now? Also, what are you using for diaper rash cream? I am planning on Earth Mama Angel Baby Angel Baby Bottom Balm. Any other good recommendations? I was also looking at Grandma El's diaper rash cream.

Thanks!

LOL, guess I can't edit the title. That was supposed to be newbie, not newbit

Took care of the title for you! ;)

I am CD'ing for the first time, even though it is my 3rd baby. I bought some diapers off of Sarah. she makes them and they are the cutest things ever! Good luck. I havent thought about creams yet so youre ahead of me!

I have read mixed reviews on those diapers.

I have to use regular Tide on my diapers or I get horrible stink issues. Most people do fine with a free and clear detergent though. I read good things about Rockin Green detergent.

As far as diaper rash, you can always use breast milk!

On my registry at the moment, I have something called Envirorite: http://www.amazon.com/Enviro-Rite-Allergen-free-Laundry-Detergent-products/dp/B0026NM5V6/ref=br_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I20OQ3PED7NS6P&colid=2OKB1UKMKX8C9

I will look into the Rocking Green though!

You can use breast milk for just about anything. There is a sticky in the breastfeeding forum.

What you use for a detergent will differ. Some people love WAHM soaps, while they don't work for others. I personally find that regular tide liquid or powder both work the best for my diapers. I think it depends on the type of water you have. Something I haven't personally used (some is on its way to me), but I have GREAT things about for stripping, is RLR.

Creams - avoid creams with any sort of fish oil in them or you could end up with all sorts of STINK!! I like California baby or Aveeno. Earth Mama Angel Baby is a fantastic brand though! And, Grandma El's is highly recommended for CD'ing. You can always use a fleece or sposie liner in your diapers when using a cream.

I would suggest not getting stuck on using one type of diaper right away. And don't invest TOO much to begin with. You never know what will work for you and what you will end up liking. Some websites offer CD trial packages - where you can try different brands/types and then send back what you don't end up liking. www.jilliansdrawers.com has a good package and great customer service.

Good luck! And don't worry too much if it takes you some trial and error to find what diapers and wash routine works for you. It's very typical!!

Are you serious about the breastmilk?? Wow! My 2 yr old has had the worst diaper rash that wont go away no matter what we use or how many times I take him to the Dr, I am pumping for my newborn and just might try the BM, what do I do? Just pour it down there?

(I dont CD btw I just came across this randomly)

Just wipe it on him.

I put a little in a lid or small dish so I didn't waste much and dipped my finger in it. BM works wonders for alot of things.

I will be using 100% Shea Butter starting on Saturday when i purchase it for diaper rash cream...it is CD safe. I'm excited. I use home made detergent that only costs $30 for a batch that will probably last at least for my son's entire first year of life...he has been CDed since birth. The recipe is on http://www.theecofriendlyfamily.com/2010/07/ive-never-looked-back.html There is a list of links that will give you a lot of info on all kinds of CD questions. www.allaboutclothdiapers.com is another great site for questions.
